COMPACT TRACTOR MAINTENANCE
Compact tractors are crucial pieces of equipment for a wide range of different industries, so it’s important that they are kept up and running at all times. Without them, you risk making life much harder for you or your workers, as tasks will likely take much longer and be much harder to complete.
Whether you’re a domestic or commercial customer, regular cleaning and maintenance of your compact tractor is a key factor in keeping it working for longer. Regular servicing is key to good compact tractor maintenance, but there are some other things that you can do on a more regular basis. In this blog, we’ll highlight some of our most important maintenance tips for your compact tractor, including which parts you need to renew, what you need to check and more.
Tractor maintenance doesn’t need to be complicated and there are a number of different things you can do daily to help keep your machine in working order. By understanding these simple checks and integrating them into your routine, you will ensure that your tractor is kept in better condition and that less money is spent on potential repairs.
Before we list our tractor maintenance techniques it’s important to state the importance of your user manual. No compact tractor maintenance article is complete without highlighting that users must follow the guidelines in their own user manual. This should include valuable information about your model, such as which parts are compatible and how often to change parts such as oil or air filters. All compact tractors are different and what works for one may not work for another.
CHECK YOUR OIL AND OTHER FLUIDS
Engine fluids need to be kept topped up to ensure that your tractor engine avoids any potential damage. Over time your engine oil will naturally deplete, so it’s a good idea to check it before every job. After all, you don’t want to get midway through a project and realise that you’ve run out.
Regular checking also allows you to keep a close eye on any potential leaks in your engine which can again cause excess damage over time if not spotted and dealt with promptly. Also ensure that you are using the right engine oil for your particular compact tractor – this will be in your user manual.
As well as engine oil, other vehicle fluids such as fuel, coolants, anti-freeze and hydraulic fluid will need to be kept topped up at all times.
USE HIGH QUALITY PARTS
We know it’s tempting to cut costs and use cheaper parts, but always make sure that they are of high quality to avoid future failure or repairs. Your compact tractor will most likely have a busy life so you’ll need to use parts that can keep up. Poor quality parts can lead to unnecessary repairs that will cost you time and money.
Blacktrac’s compact tractor workshop can supply a wide range of high quality parts for your machine, whether you’re a domestic or commercial customer. Not only do we dispatch our tractor parts to our customers, but we use them in our own repairs and servicing and can guarantee their high quality.
REGULAR CLEANING
Regular cleaning is something that every compact tractor owner should be doing, especially if you’re working in a dirty, damp or muddy environment. Wheels and cabs should be kept dirt-free, as should any attachments such as blades or buckets. Attachments can be removed and deep cleaned if necessary – just make sure to remember how they fit back on when you’re finished.
Not only does regular cleaning help prevent your tractor from getting bogged down with dirt and mud, but it also helps you spot any potential parts that need to be repaired. By giving your compact tractor a regular close inspection, you’re always ahead of the curve and prepared for any future repairs that could end up costing a lot more if left.
PERFORM YOUR OWN CHECKS
Some parts of your compact tractor will need to be regularly checked to make sure they are kept in the best possible condition. It’s a good idea to get into the habit of testing things like batteries and tire pressure, both of which can impact your tractors performance if left unmonitored.
You should also take time to check any safety systems in your compact tractor, such as seatbelts, lights and step or hand-holds. None of these will impact the overall health of your tractor, but it will ensure that the user stays safe at all times.
